This article SPEAKS TO MY SOUL. Deeply, because I have lived it.
I have lived it in the WORST way, and now, as I am finding my way to live each day with PASSION AND PURPOSE, I am applying safeguard techniques to UNAPOLOGETICALLY run my business and live my life, and ensure a strong work/life balance so that I do NOT burnout.
As a budding entrepreneur, I will not apologize for my time, or my value. I will not apologize when I do not answer work email after 6/7pm — or even 5pm. I will not apologize when I do not stop what I am doing to reply to a text message. (It can wait). I will not apologize when I take 24 business hours to reply to your email. I will not apologize for not responding to your email or text message on a weekend. I will not apologize when I do not respond to your 6am text message until after 9am (or even 10am). I will not apologize for saying that I can’t meet you between 9am and 11am weekdays because I have deemed this my personal “magic time” to be productive, and I can’t afford to lose that time (even if it’s just my time).
I will not feel guilty when I cannot volunteer for your extremely worthy and heartfelt volunteer organization, because I’m already volunteering 10-15 hours per week on other extremely worthy and heartfelt volunteer organizations. I will not feel guilty that I ask for a real wage for my real work. I will not feel guilty when I show you my boundaries, which includes time off, and personal care. I will not feel guilty when I can’t make it to the gym every single day. I will not feel guilty when I stop what I’m doing to take a nap in the middle of the day and recharge my batteries. I will not feel guilty SAYING NO.
I’ve really struggled with SO many of these perfectionism ideals for ALL of my life and my career, and I feel blessed along the way to have learned the hard lessons that will MAKE ME BETTER. And will my business stronger, and it will ensure that I DON’T BURN OUT.
I have found my passion, and I will safeguard my productivity to ensure my success. I will not please everyone. I will lose clients, and not everyone will understand by boundaries, but these are my boundaries, and the measures I must take to ensure I do not lose steam, and that I continue to create the life I want to live.
So, please, please, take a moment and read this article. Its message is real, but the good news is, we can train ourselves OUT of this issue and teach ourselves NOT to be connected 24/7, to create personal boundaries, to release the guilt, and to value work/life balance.
I promise you, in the end, this is the key to success.
